About La Romana

Along the south-eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, there lies a vast strip of sugar cane plantations, which contain some of the most picturesque beaches, elegant accommodations, and most desirable attractions of the regions of La Romana and Bayahibe.

La Romana was founded in the early 19th century. It was originally a sugar cane-producing region, which is why it also flourished as a port from where sugar cane and wood was shipped. Its crystal-clear waters, lush tropical forests and incomparable range of entertainment make La Romana a major tourist area and the ideal destination for families, couples, golfers, fishing and sailing aficionados.

Casa de Campo, located in La Romana, is one of the most luxurious and elegant resorts in the Caribbean. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy any of the three magnificent golf courses at this resort, namely Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore and The Links. Furthermore, the resort features an attractive marina where you can find boutiques of international renown and restaurants that offer culinary options of the finest gastronomy. Another attraction is Altos de Chavón, a wonderful replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village of artists from where you can behold breathtaking views of the Chavón River.

Just 20 minutes to the east of La Romana lies Bayahibe, founded in 1874 as a fishing village. Today, it is a destination with attractive hotels and is preferred by sun and beach lovers. This ecotourism region is the home of the national flower, the exotic Rose of Bayahibe. Visitors can enjoy a tour of its striking nature and discover the true history behind this picturesque village.
